Emraan Hashmi, known for his romantic roles, is set to surprise audiences with his powerful transformation in the upcoming film Ground Zero, where he portrays a heroic BSF officer. The film brings to life a real and intense chapter from India’s fight against terrorism—the elimination of Ghazi Baba, the mastermind behind the 2001 Parliament attack.
In this gripping Hindi action-drama, Emraan Hashmi takes on the role of Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, the brave second-in-command officer of the Border Security Force (BSF) who led the covert operation in 2003 that neutralized the dreaded terrorist. The mission, carried out in the heart of Srinagar, has been etched into BSF’s official history and now finds its way to the big screen.
A Mission of Valor
Ghazi Baba, also known as Rana Tahir Nadeem, was a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed and the key planner behind the attack on the Indian Parliament in December 2001. For years, Indian forces tracked his movements, as he constantly changed hideouts to avoid capture. On August 29, 2003, acting on intelligence, the BSF discovered that Ghazi Baba was hiding in the Noorbagh area of Srinagar.
Commandant Dubey, along with the 193rd BSF battalion, launched a swift night operation. As the BSF stormed the suspected building, the terrorists retaliated with gunfire and grenades. Despite being struck by seven bullets, Dubey continued to lead the charge alongside constable Omvir. Their bravery led to the elimination of Ghazi Baba, though Dubey succumbed to his injuries during the encounter.

From Real Heroism to Reel Tribute
The operation is chronicled in a 319-page commemorative book published by the BSF on its 50th anniversary in 2015. It highlights not only the strategic brilliance but also the unmatched courage of the BSF team. The mission earned the force two prestigious military honors and over a dozen bravery awards.
With Ground Zero, Emraan Hashmi steps into uncharted territory, honoring a lesser-known but monumental tale of sacrifice and patriotism. Cinema lovers and patriotic hearts alike are eagerly waiting to witness this story of grit and heroism unfold on the silver screen.
