The prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2025 will once again see Indian cinema shining on the global stage, as Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar’s film Homebound secures its spot at the celebrated event. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Neeraj Gheywan, the film has been officially selected for the Un Certain Regard section—a category known for highlighting unique storytelling and emerging talent.
This marks another milestone for Gheywan, whose earlier film Masaan had already bagged two awards at Cannes, establishing his reputation as a masterful storyteller. With Homebound, he takes another leap forward, this time with a powerful emotional narrative starring Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khattar, and Vishal Jethwa.
Sharing his excitement, Karan Johar, who co-produced the film, took to social media saying, “Our emotional story Homebound directed by Neeraj Gheywan has been selected for the prestigious Festival de Cannes. This moment is a testament to the power of Indian cinema, which showcases our unique stories, talents, and perspectives to the world.”
Johar, who has long dreamed of presenting a film at Cannes, expressed heartfelt admiration for the director, calling him “a true visionary” and “a lighthouse” for future filmmakers. “Neeraj Gheywan, this achievement is not only a victory for our film industry but also a ray of hope for emerging filmmakers, inspiring them to push boundaries and share their voice,” he added.
After the spotlight on Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy at last year’s Cannes, Homebound promises to carry the legacy forward, amplifying Indian cinema’s global presence with its compelling narrative and stellar performances.
