Both director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and actor Farhan Akhtar were looking for success after the stupendous release of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013). Meanwhile, Mehra’s Mirzya (2016), Fanney Khan (2018) and Mere Pyare Prime Minister (2019) failed to woo the audience. While Farhan could not impress despite appearing in more than half a dozen films amidst the entanglements of personal life. Mehra and Farhan are together in Toofan and this time they are able to awaken the old magic. Both have also made their OTT debut with this film released on Amazon Prime.
Toofan of two hours 40 minutes is for those audiences who like Bollywood style films. This film has all the spices for him, which are seen in traditional Hindi cinema. Although Mehra has also tried to give it a new age touch. The original idea of the film is of Farhan Akhtar. It tells the story of a boxer who, despite being out of the ring in prime time of his age, returns to the ring for love and becomes a champion. Boxer in Hindi on Boxing (1984/Mithun Chakraborty), Aryan (2006/Sohail Khan), Apne (2007/Bobby Deol), Lahore (2010/Anhad), Mary Kom (2014/Priyanka Chopra), Sala Khadoos (2016/Ritika) Singh) and Mukkabaaz (2017/Vineet Kumar Singh) have been made. Dara Singh, from Amitabh Bachchan to Ajay Devgan and Aamir Khan have appeared in the boxing ring on screen. In every boxed film, the hero-heroine has become the champion in the end. The path and reasons for his becoming a champion have definitely been different. Usually such stories have been about the personal struggles of the characters.
