Prabhas and Deepika Padukone’s ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has been reigning supreme at the box office for some time. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film has become a blockbuster of 2024, raking in substantial earnings.

However, Kamal Hassan’s ‘Indian 2’, directed by S. Shankar, has now entered the fray. Released pan-India and titled ‘Hindustani 2’ in Hindi, the movie clashed with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’ on its opening weekend, yet managed to achieve remarkable box office success.

Strong Start for ‘Indian 2’ Across All Languages

‘Indian 2’ tells the story of a former freedom fighter who becomes a vigilante to combat corruption. While the first installment in 1996 was well-received, the sequel’s narrative has been critiqued as lackluster by some. Despite this, the film’s earnings have been robust.

According to Sakalik’s reports, ‘Indian 2’ garnered a net collection of ₹58.9 crores at the domestic box office during its first weekend. Specifically, the Hindi version collected around ₹1.3 crores on Sunday, the Tamil version earned ₹11 crores, and the Telugu version brought in ₹2.8 crores.

‘Indian 2’ Nears ₹100 Crores Worldwide

Starring Kamal Hassan, ‘Indian 2’ performed exceptionally well in India, particularly in Tamil. Over the first weekend, the film earned ₹3.8 crores in Hindi, ₹41.2 crores in Tamil, and ₹13.9 crores in Telugu.

Globally, ‘Indian 2’ has already reached an impressive ₹84 crores in its opening weekend. If the film continues to perform at this pace, it could pose a significant challenge to the box office success of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ in the near future.
