The film, co-starring Simran Bagga and Darshan Jariwala, wrapped up shooting in 2024. According to reports, producer Vishal Rana is currently in discussions with various streaming platforms for a direct-to-OTT release. Given the emotional depth of the film, the makers feel that an OTT launch might be a better fit than a theatrical release.

“After ‘Gadar 2,’ Sunny signed several action films because audiences love to see him in larger-than-life roles. But ‘Safar’ is completely different—there’s no action, no intense fight sequences, just an emotional journey of a middle-aged man finding true happiness by helping others. Sunny loved the script despite knowing it might not meet his fans’ usual expectations.”

Director’s Vision: Showcasing a New Side of Sunny Deol

Filmmaker Shashank Udaipurkar, known for directing Anna (2016) and Pravas (2020), wanted to bring out a new dimension of Sunny Deol’s acting skills. With ‘Safar,’ he aims to present Deol in a role that focuses on depth, emotions, and human connections rather than brute strength.

While an OTT release is highly likely, there are still discussions about whether the film could get a limited theatrical run before its digital debut.
