Karan Johar, a leading filmmaker in Hindi cinema, is known for his iconic banner, Dharma Productions. Recently, there has been much speculation regarding the sale of a 50 percent stake in the company, with rumors suggesting that Mukesh Ambani was the buyer. However, those reports have been debunked.

In a major business move, it has now been officially confirmed that Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India, has acquired 50 percent of Dharma Productions. The deal, valued at Rs 1000 crore, marks a significant partnership between Johar and Poonawalla, who is also known for his company’s role in manufacturing COVID-19 vaccines.

Adar Poonawalla Becomes Co-owner of Dharma Productions

Dharma Productions, which has produced several blockbuster films over the years, including the recently released Jigra starring Alia Bhatt, has now entered a new phase. With Poonawalla’s investment, the production house will be jointly owned by him and Karan Johar. This strategic partnership has been officially announced through a press release from Poonawalla’s team.

Legacy of Dharma Productions

Karan Johar and his father, Yash Johar, have built a legacy of successful films under the Dharma banner, some of which include:

  • Dostana
  • Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
  • My Name is Khan
  • Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
  • Raazi
  • Bahubali
  • RRR

These movies not only achieved critical and commercial success but also solidified Dharma Productions’ reputation as one of India’s top production houses.

A 48-Year-Old Legacy

Founded by Yash Johar in 1976, Dharma Productions has played a significant role in shaping Hindi cinema. Karan Johar took over his father’s legacy, producing numerous hit films over the years. Now, with Adar Poonawalla as his partner, Dharma Productions is set to embark on a new chapter in its storied history.
